Dune
While I am not sure that Dune is my favoritest book ever, it is pretty close! . Outside of the Bible, Dune is the one book I have re-read the most. By that metric I guess it is my favorite. (Way-Farer is the only other novel that I’ve re-read as many times)

Dogs
And this is where Project X goes where Angels Fear to Tread. I was run over by an over-enthusiastic dog when I was a young boy and that has shaped my outlook ever since. To be honest, it’s not “dogs” per se that I dislike, but untrained dogs and their forsaken lazy no good useless owners. Get your forsaken dog fixed and trained and then I’ll like dogs.
As you can see, Project X doesn’t shy away from the tough topics of our day. Our Bionic Eye, much like the eye of sauron, gazes ceaselessly across the internet of things to tell you our opinion on The Things.

That might have been less damaging. Those little brutes are nasty!

I did think Dune was outstanding, but don’t think I’d read it again. I have a couple of books I go back to, The Stand of course, and The Manda Scott 4 book series about Boudicca, also intending to re-do James Clavell’s asian series thanks to Alex de Gaul. Dogs, I’ve had a few, none of whomst ever ran over any children, (I never taught them to drive. 😀 :D) but cats are my first go-to pet. Dogs are good animals but have to be kept under control.

Shogun is my favorite of the Asian Saga too and at some point I’ll re-read it. But not the rest of the series.
Now, if dogs used cars to run people over, I might actually be ok with that! 😀

Shogun is the standout for me too. We should do a movie- “It’s a Dog’s Drive” 🤣

An updated and edgier version of The Shaggy DA perhaps? I don’t know if you ever saw that. It was a staple of my childhood.

I didn’t! Possibly wasn’t on over here. But we did have Spotty Dog and the Flowerpot People 🤣🤣

The Shaggy DA was a disney kids movie about a district attorney who somehow turned into a shaggy dog. Hold up….
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shaggy_D.A.
So yeah, probably not available across the pond.
Anyway, if we could get a john wick style character to turn into some sort of dog, I’d drop money for that….

I’m currently reading Children of Dune and enjoying it very much.

I would say then, if you’ve made it this far into the series and are enjoying it that you’ll enjoy the rest of Frank’s Dune Chronicles. I look forward to what you think of them 🙂

I almost unfollowed you after I read you disliked dogs. jk
Thankfully I kept reading and learned something interesting about your history. I just added Dune to my list. Thanks.

Dune is one of my most highly recommended books. I consider it a Classic and not just a SF Classic.
I wouldn’t have held it against you if you had. I know dog people can be pretty intense…

Meth and speed? Sounds like a deadly combination.

Exactly. That’s why chihuahua’s are so skinny and so bark’y….

So that’s what you are doing to those dogs over there. Imma call animal control on you.

Dogs are great. But big dogs are the best. You need to cozy up to a Saint or a Newf. No attitude and lots of love.

Aren’t those 2 you mentioned the ones that have gallons of slobber?

There’s nothing worse than untrained dogs and I certainly blame the owners! Owners who don’t pick up dog mess are a pet hate of mine, and our neighbour’s dog barks every time someone or something moves in a 25 metre square radius, which drives us mad!

Oh, dog poop. That gets me going too. Especially on the sidewalks!

That’s unfortunate that you had a bad experience as a young boy with dogs. I hate to hear that. They really are wonderful companions; although, unruly dogs are a pain.
I have Dune on my list. Glad to hear it’s a favorite. 👍

Maybe if Mrs B goes before me and I live to be 70 I’ll think about a dog. I doubt it though 😉
Even if you end up hating Dune, it’s a good book to have under your literary belt.

I’m in the same boat with you when it comes to dogs, right up to and including getting trampled by one when I was little. I was afraid of them for most of my childhood; though after living with (a much smaller) one for a few years, I’ve learned that they’re really only a reflection of their owners and how they take care of them.

I didn’t think of it that way until you mentioned it but my attitude towards dogs is pretty much the same as towards people. If there weren’t anymore, I’d be ok with that 😉

I can sympathize with your feelings about dogs after that childhood incident, since something similar happened to me when I was a kid, and made me very uneasy when faced with dogs. But things can change, and they did for me, mostly thanks to a friend’s sweet and intelligent Golden Retriever, who taught me a lot about humanity’s best four-legged friends and the way they can teach you to enjoy their company. Who knows, maybe you will meet your own world-changing, friendly dog one of these days… 🙂

Can’t blame you there. Untrained dogs could be as bad as an untrained gun owner!!!

Exactly!
Well, a gun won’t run me over though, hahahaha 😀
A tank would though! Yeah, an untrained dog is as bad as an untrained tank!

haha very brave of you (But untrained dogs *are* a terror, so really you’re doing a public service!)
