“Then let’s get to it,” said Rawne. The officers hesitated for a moment. Rawne stared at them and then sighed.
“Oh, and the Emperor protects and you’re all going to live forever and all that…” he said with a wave of his hand. “I don’t do rousing or uplifting. Just get on with it.”
~Colonel Rawne to his officers
If I was a soldier in the Warhammer 40K universe, this would probably sum up my attitude about the so-called “Emperor” as well. It would have been funnier if the author could have worked in giving everyone a pony too. Oh well, not everyone is as talented as me.
In that grim & dark universe they would just eat the ponies for their next dinner anyway,,,

Very true. And complain about how stringy and gamey they were 🙂

In cockney rhyming slang, a pony is £25, if that helps. And rousing and uplifting are two words I would use to descibe this blog and the Bookstoogian world it comes from…

You wouldn’t catch Rawn punching any bears in the face 😀
And $25 seems pretty cheap for a pony. I bet the army could have had a lot at that price.

Soldiers on pony’s sounds nice, they’d trot along being all sweet and chipper and forget to shoot anyone.

Got any more of those rose-colored glasses? I wouldn’t mind a pair right about now…

This made me laugh more than I think I shouldve… Not having fun anymore or getting fed up with old Empy Smempy?

I am still enjoying the series, just not any references to the emperor. There’s a lot of talk about him in this book and it just annoys me. He’s just a piss poor excuse for a deity…

Oh yeah, the more i read about it the more pissed off i get too believe me. Not like he wanted to become one, but people want something to believe in and if you have a constant halo around you i’d bow the knee too i guess…specially considering the grim darkness it all takes place in

Yeah, if he’s all you’ve got, you’re stuck and you have to make the best of the situation.
I’m just surprised there aren’t higher order beings of Order that humanity could flock too. Once my lack of lore knowledge about WH40K leaves me stymied 🙂

Its a weird concept to tell you the truth, they wanted to stamp out all religion, then everyone started praying or venerated old Empe which he did not want, but never have i heard him complaining about it…

Ha! I would find myself in sympathy with “Death to the False Emperor!” except those guys are even more psychotic and genocidal

Exactly. This universe isn’t about Good vs Evil but about bad vs worse. which is why I’ve just given up on this franchise except for a select few sub-series (Gaunt and then hopefully caiaphus cain). I can’t deal with that nasty duology.

I do wonder how it’s all going to end – I mean, I like the fact that the heresy had some merit and cannot be portrayed just as bad guys, since the Emperor is clearly equally bad, but without Chaos taint (or is he? ;)) I’d like to see it resolved, though – it’s been ages and there’s no end in sight! 😀

I don’t see it ever being resolved. Then Games Workshops (or whoever produces the games) couldn’t keep putting out new iterations. The books and series definitely take a back seat to the gaming side.

I wonder if the comic book format of this universe (if it exists) offers some interesting stories/artwork for this franchise. 😮

You’d have to ask SavageDave about that. I have no idea if there are comics or not. It seems like a big enough franchise for them to try to encompass that fandom though.

I think the ponies are a much better idea-maybe they could give a rousing whinney or something…

😀 Yeah, but where would YOU store a pony? You’ve already got enough space issues 😀 😀 😀
