Earlier this year I gave my A History of …… Magic the Gathering. Since that time, because I’ve pretty much given up on playing, I’ve slowly moved into the collectible side of things.
The above picture features all the Revised Sol Rings I’ve bought since that last post. While they say things can’t buy happiness, these have certainly brought a level of enjoyment that I don’t get from buying groceries.
So if cardboard pictures don’t make you happy, then buy yourself a bag of chips and cry me a river. Because I’m just chock full of sympathy right now!

That’s a lot of Sol Ring’s😅😅😅 I used to love Magic the Gathering. I played it a lot at school. In fact there were days were classes had already ended and we stayed at school for hours on end to play Magic. Good times. The fun got ruined a bit because of mr. Suitcase, but overall this is still a really fantastic game😊

Is Mr Suitcase = moving?

Lol…no Mr Suitcase was the guy/girl who bought so many cards that you couldn’t play against them: in other words they simply brought a whole suitcase of cards to the table! 😂😂

Ahhh, gotcha. That kind of player is not fun to deal with
They want to win, period and the fun is in the winning, not the playing. Kind of ruins the game if you ask me.

Yeah, I’m someone who doesn’t mind losing at all. The game is a lot of fun. But against players like that, it’s really not enjoyable to play. They have an answer for everything, and that really eventually ruined the game for me. That said: I still have the cards, and I love the collecting aspect of the game as well 😀

What kind of level of excitement do you get from buying groceries? On a scale of 1 to five and a half?

I get so little excitement from buying groceries that it has become one of Mrs B’s chores, not mine. So maybe a Negative 26?

Buying certain things I don’t really need can make me very happy. It’s the human in me😉

Thankfully, these are nice and little, so they’re not taking up much space 🙂

That’s the collection every magic the gathering players need!

I actually looked into what it would take to do a buyout of all the commander versions of sol ring. It was ridiculous. There are thousands of them out there
So revised it is 😀

I have no idea what sol rings are.

A little piece of cardboard with a pretty picture on it aptly sums it up.
Now, if you want to know the context of what it is, well, that’s different. Here’s a wiki page if you care 😀

Hmm sounds very complicated. Not quite snakes & ladders. 😊

As the years go by and new mechanics get added, it gets VERY complicated 😀

Ok, this beats me. Why so many of the same card? Or are there differences between them?

Nope, they’re the same card. It’s a collectable thing…

These were made in ’93/94 and there are no more of them being made. So there’s a rarity involved. not as great as previous versions, but a lot more rare than the same card made today.

Oh, so you’re like trying to buy out all of them? Will you be selling them when they get more valuable?
Sorry, just trying to wrap my head around it 🙂

I am not trying to buy them all out, just a bunch. It is the equivalent of buying a specific baseball card of a player you like from a specific series.
I would love to buy them all, but with hundreds on the market, ranging from horrible condition to near mint and from prices of $5-$45, that’s just not feasible. I am collecting the light play to near mint versions with my “fun” money.
If they do become more valuable, I probably won’t sell them. Kind of like hoarding I guess?

OK, got it – thanks! Do you have any other cards that you like so much?

No, that’s pretty much the only one I’m currently interested in. It’s just an iconic card from my teens, so that image is what I think of when I think of Magic the Gathering.

Happy hunting then, and many more mint-condition Sols! 😀

There is totally zero joy to be found in buying in groceries! I very much agree with that! I was collecting Paddington books and Harry Potter stuff all summer and that brought me some happy days! Vital to find something fun this year with everything going on!

Any idea just how many Paddington books there are?

I don’t think I ever owned multiple copies of the same thing, not at this level anyways hahaha I do prefer collecting the same thing but in different editions though, e.g. various copies of The Killing Joke graphic novel. But I’m with you. Sometimes a little bit of happiness can indeed be bought! 😀

Outside of MTG, I would never do something like this. Even with the comic cards I collected in the 90’s, once I had the set, that was it. Good move on my part too, as that whole fiasco fell apart like wet cement. The cards are worth less than when I initially bought them 😀 Even the original Marvel Masterpieces by Vallejo…
