Raw Data:
Books – 11
Pages – 4232
Words – 1071.9K
Average Rating – 3.82 stars (that has GOT to be a record!!!!!)
The “Bad”:
For Love of Distant Shores – 3 Stars
Two Gentlemen of Verona – 3 Stars
The Good:
Great Expectations – 5 Stars
Target Rich Environment, Vol. 2 – 4.5 Stars
Movie:
UP was a great movie even while ripping my emotional guts out at the beginning. I did ask everyone to vote for the next 3 months of movies, as the choice was between the Lord of the Rings extended editions or the mini-series The 10th Kingdom. Something resonated with you all because I got more input on that than I have had in a while. Made me happy.ย It looks like The 10th Kingdom squeaked ahead by 1 vote, so be prepared for that in the coming months. There are 3 discs so I’ll do a disc a month with however many episodes are on each disc.
Miscellaneous And Personal:
Algebra is dead in the water. I’ve realized I don’t want my survey license with all the attendant “people stuff” that comes with it. I do want to move onto the next level of Field Certification though, so I’ll probably try to deal with Geometry this summer. Jefferson,ย we’ll talk ๐
Weight Watchers is going ok. I’ve reached the point where I just need to lose the final few pounds but it is going really hard.ย I continue to persevere though and I’m pretty happy with the program and how it is working for me.
I’ve come to realize that the Pages/Word count is guestimating at its most basic level. I need to get past that hangup and just realize it is rough metric. It is hard to accept that it isn’t spot on though.
Here’s a bullet list of some of my other random posts:
- #6degrees Post (man, I love doing these!)
- Survival Saturday – Awwww, Grottin Taters (Preciousss)
- MH Guardian Quote
- Breakfast of Poopers (Courtesy of Amazon)
- I Need Help! (Input for Author Interview)
Overall, I’m content with this month. When the “worst” books I read were both 3 stars, you know it was a good month. Please do check out the “I Need Help” post if you have any advice about interviewing authors, I need all the help I can get.
Book Give-Away:
Ichabod won last month’sย give-away.ย The Current Give-Away is a bunch of paperbacks and is open until March 7, so only a week to get your entry in.
Cover Love:
This month I chose Galactic Outlaws for the cover. I mean, come on. Lonestar is on there, right along with Princess Vespa ๐ย ย Hahahaa.ย All kidding aside, that is some serious Star Wars vibes going on and I like it.
Plans for Next Month:
I have decided to throw caution to the wind in March and read whatever the frell I feel like. I’m wondering if this is the start of my mid-life crisis? Don’t try to stop me! I’m a desperate man and desperate men do desperate things!
Congrats on such a great reading month, and also on the Weight Watchers success!
Good luck with the geometry. I think itโs good that you can recognize what kind of a job you would hate and draw the line so you donโt end up miserable. For me, itโs people management. My manager (and his manager) ask me periodically if Iโd be interested in having people report to me and the answer is always a flat and unambiguous โNo.โ (And an internal NO, NOO, NOOOOO!)
(Iโm traveling this morning to visit family, so any replies from me may be slow in coming.)

It has been a long time since my monthly average was that high. I guess there ARE upsides to not reading as much ๐
Management, while Mrs B and I excoriate them a lot, is something of a very necessary evil. But both of us would rather die than do it ๐
Good luck with the visiting…

Reading whatever you want sounds wonderful as long as you keep reading. ๐ For a while, I felt pressured to read the “classics” and stuff because a lot of people are well-read but then I decided to screw that and just read whatever made me happy and reading less a chore.

When I say a lot of people, I mean my classmates at uni.

Just remember, you’ve got your whole life ahead of you to read. Just so long as you don’t turn into a 50 year old woman who reads nothing but YA ๐
While I read a bunch of classics back in my 20’s, re-reading them now, I’m appreciating them so much more. Makes me wonder what I’ll think of them in another 20 years ๐ ๐ ๐

It’s certainly a good month when 3 stars are the worst! I’m expecting quite a few 3 stars in my novella reads but I’m ok with that. Hopefully lots of good books for everyone this year!

Now that my reading is a bit more “scheduled”, I’m simply cutting out all the “possiblies” which is cutting down a lot on the chaff…

Omg I must have missed your movie post, cause I would have told you to pick up the 10th Kingdom asap! It’s one of my favourites, I’ve watched it sooo many times!
Hope you like it as well!
Aw man, now I need to hunt the DVD Box down again. I sold mine before moving overseas as it was a rare one & I needed money ๐ญ

I’ve actually seen it before, but it’s been over a decade, so it will “almost” be like watching it for the first time again ๐

Great reading month! That rating average might indeed be a record high for you ๐ Might even be higher than my February average…I read some good books, but there were a few meh and a couple stinkers…

It is amazing how by focusing solely on the series I really WANT to read, all the chaff falls by the wayside. I’m sure I’ll still get some stinkers here and there, but it shouldn’t happen as often ๐

Congratulations on keeping your head up with the Weight Watchers thing. That’s a feat in itself and I’m glad to hear that you’re persevering. Did you have to cut on those epic energy drinks, by the way? ๐ฎ
I too was going to say that if your worse books were 3 stars, you clearly had a magical month of reading hahaha
Well, well, well… Looks like you too feel like March is the time to try something new for no particular reason at all. ๐ Hope March has good plans in store for you, sir.

I am trying to cut caffeine WAY down. My goal is to keep it down to one energy drink on Saturday mornings, as a treat while I sit on the couch and read/write ๐
It was magical indeed. I mean, with an average approaching 4, what else could it be? ๐ ๐ ๐
I’m turning 42 in march, and it’s hitting me. Turning 40 had zero effect on me, but I guess changing jobs and all that entailed is taking more of a toll than I initially expected. Getting old I guess, hahahahaa.
I can say, that so far, the books I’ll be reviewing for March have been quite interesting. It’s been a good break from my reading rotation.

Wow, when the “bad” is still a three star read, that sounds like a great month! And great job with the Weight Watchers! Sometimes that last little bit just takes a little longer. It’s frustrating, but it’s normal (at least in my experience).

I know, right? How can I even call 3 stars a “bad” read? Even a year ago I would have been quite happy with a bunch of 3 stars ๐
Yeah, it is called plateau’ing. I hit it once for a couple of weeks but then powered on through. The leaders at WW always say the last 10 lbs are ALWAYS the hardest. sigh….

Still, if 3 stars is your lowest rating for the month…. Maybe it’s not “bad,” it’s “less good”…

“Less Good”. If I get a repeat of February, I’m going to use that. Thanks!

Such a great month! Congrats, Bookstoge – both when it comes to books and reading, and WW. Glad you’re finding your place work-wise and that you know what you want and what you don’t want – half the work already done! ๐
That average is something to behold ๐
When’s your birthday exactly? Piotrek’s and mine are in March too ๐

Overall, life is going great even while I hate the working environment. I’ve realized it’s going to take a full year for me to really integrate into the new company. 5 months there and I’m already fully living for the weekends each week. I don’t like it, even if it is how a lot of Americans operate ๐ฆ
But there is a time limit, so at least I can just hold for X time.
Never had an average this high and while I am liking it, it also makes me fearful that I’ll get used to it ๐ Nothing worse than getting used to the Good Life then having it ripped away brutally. My goodness, I take my book reading pretty seriously, eh? ๐
My b-day is after the 1st and before the 15th.

I’m very glad life’s spoiling you at the moment – we all need those times to remind us what the hassle is about ๐
Well, I can relate. Though I ditched a job I didn’t like and made a 180 degrees turn in my professional life; but then, I later made another U turn and moved overseas ๐ So in my case, life is indeed full of surprises ๐
You do take your reading very seriously! But I’m very much the same, and books are important part of what makes me tick.
Happy b-day soon! ๐

What a surprize to come back from holiday and to read that you got through another Warhammer. I will try get to that review today. I will be diong a reread of the first two GG books as I have finally gotten my hands on book 3. I cannot say when this will happen though. Regarding your reading and month of Feb, I am sorry for missing most of it.
