The Bad:
Lucky Starr and the Rings of Saturn – 2 Stars
The Good:
The Gabble and Other Stories – 5 Stars
Movie:
I not only watched a movie this month, I reviewed it as well. Despicable Me was a lot of fun and I hope that future movie posts can go as well. I’m still trying to decide if I want a formula for my movie posts or if the “whatever strikes my fancy” kind of posts are going to prevail.
Miscellaneous And Personal:
My Shaman King manga reads went very well this month but even though it finished on a high note, I have to admit that I have almost no desire to dive into some manga at the moment. We’ll see how I’m feeling in a week or two.
I did the Insider Book Blog tag where I revealed so much about myself. With tags like this, it’s a wonder that I’m not mobbed on the streets more often by adoring fans. I mean, how can anyone resist such a charming rogue with a heart of gold like me? Of course, with my awesome psychic abilities, as shown in Bookstoogedamus Predicts the Future, I guess I’m not surprised that people are so intimidated by me. Ahh, it’s tough being me, so lovable and yet so fearsome.
I also Reviewed 2018 in one post. Probably the longest post I’ll write this year. Figured it was a good thing to get all that long-windedness out the way.
WBCI: (World Book Czar Initiative)
Since I’ve been thinking about the whole #worldbookczar thing for quite some time, I decided that this was the year to actually do something about it. As such, my journey to find Our Great Leader has commenced. I hope I am up to the task and I trust others will ask the hard questions too. I’m already doubting whether my skin is tough enough to deal with some of the folks I have lined up to interview!
And just remember, if there are questions you want asked, please put them in the comments of the WBCI posts and I’ll see to it they get asked.
Sounds like a good start to the year. 3.68 isn’t a bad average. Suggests enjoyable if not mind-blowingly good.

It’s actually wicked good for me. My average for ’18 was 3.3 and overall my average runs between 3.1 and 3.3. So that is actually a highwater mark. I’m sure some stinkers are going to come along to drag it back down though 😉
(just because I’m such an optimist!)

The odd 1 or 2 star saps all the hard work the many 4 and 5s do.
I have a post set to be published about my wrap up. But I didn’t put any stats in. Think I may have to next month 👌

Yep, all it takes is one stinker and bam, that average falls off a cliff!
I do stats in my wrap up posts because I love stats. It also makes my year end wrap up post easier since I have to manually combine all my stats as I’m not on GR. I don’t know if the people who follow me like the stats as much as I do, but that is why I always write for myself first 😀

I bloody love stats. Which is why I’m amazed at the fact I haven’t included any in my post for today 😢
How come you’re not on Goodreads? The year end thing is a wonderful little sight at the end of the year. Shame they don’t do a monthly one.

Well, at least now you’ll have something to aim for next month 🙂
My and GR have a history. I left back in ’13 when they silently changed the TOS and started censoring reviews (by hiding them from the public view or outright deleting them) without clear guidelines of what could or could not be written. I”ve tried going back a couple of times since then and end up leaving in utter disgust after a month or so, or I get my reviews hidden. Plus, I’ve had some really bad author and fan interactions on there. Most of my “Surviving a Bad Book” posts are based on things like that 🙂

I do remember you saying that now. I think you mentioned it to me on one of these surviving a bad book posts. I’m quite fortunate not to have had any of these interactions yet or similar issues with GR.

Start calling writers out for their bad writing and somebody is sure to respond 😉

I have once or twice. One of them thanked me. Good luck on my part.

I’m jealous of how many books you manage to read in one month.

There’s a reason I chose the moniker “Bookstooge” 😀

No good covers this month?
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, there really wasn’t. I was surprised, because I was enjoying all these good books but when I went and looked at them all, not a single one really stood out as “awesome”. First time in a real long time that that has happened.

I’d say it was a very good month for you. I am astounded that i aqtually also finnished two books, and that for a january? Things are looking mighty fine your side man👍🏻

It was a great way to get 2019 rolling. I just hope the rest of the year, overall, is as good.
Is work staying slow still? Does that give you more reading time or are you just recovering?

Its freezing now more often so doing windows outside serves no purpose. I have a few extra days off now and then

Raw books!
Out of curiosity, have you read any of the Dragon Ball stuff?
LikeLiked by 1 person
I read the first Dragon Ball manga back in ’09, if that is what you mean? I’ve also watched the first season of Dragon Ball Z Kai(which cuts out all the fluff and grunting episodes to make it a relatively quicker series).
The manga was funny but crude enough that I never continued.

Do you know what’s the next movie you plan on checking out or is your decision to watch a movie, and what movie, based purely on your mood at the moment? 😀 Great moment of reading though. I believe that’s a nice way to kick off the year.

It will be RED. Once that is watched, I’ll probably consult Mrs B to see if there is any movie we can watch together (we have almost opposite tastes in movies, so it’s rare)

Sounds like a good month! I look forward to seeing what you decide to do for movie reviews.

February is definitely RED. After that, I’m going to “try” to keep it all over the place. My movie interest should be a bit wider than my book reading with all the SFF. But we’ll see.

A good start to 2019 😉 January wasn’t such a good reading month for me, though I’ve managed to read two books in one day recently, thus drastically improving my stats 😉

It was a great start for me. I’m really happy with it.
Sorry to hear it was a bummer for you. Maybe things will pick up in February and you’ll have an average of 4.44 and read ALL the books 😉

Yeah, one can wish 😉 Thanks though – the books I’ve been reading recently had all quite high rating, the lowest being 6.5 and the highest 8… Waiting for my first 10/10 this year! 🙂

I almost did a thumbs up and crossed my kitschy sayings 🙂

3.68 star average…you might even have had a better month than me! I didn’t read my first 5 star of the year until a few days ago, the rest of my January was dominated by 3-3.5 star reads. Those ruts are the worst, sometimes you even start wishing for a 2 star just to have something astonishingly bad to break up the monotony, lol!

As long as its the “good” bad low star book. The “bad” bad low star books are enervating and depressing.
Now that was a messy sentence if I ever saw one.

I’m officially ceasing any comments on your reading stats. Unless they go waay down, I might get a bit mean then 😉
There is sth really nice about some of the s/f covers from your January reviews, but I guess they don’t really stand out, just solid 🙂

Weeeeelllll, wait for the February roundup. I can already tell this is going to be a tough month.
Solid definitely describes the sf covers. But I wasn’t feeling the love.

Thanks Monkey! I’m getting more excited about the WBC Initiative the more I think of it. I’ll probably end up burning out on the idea, but until I do, I’m running with it 🙂
