Stomach Flu

I have been out of commission this week due to having gastroenteritis.  It started Monday morning about 4am and I ended up in the ER by Tuesday.  I’m on 2 antibiotics that make me sick to my stomach and I can pretty much only handle rice and applesauce in small quantities. I don’t feel any better than I did Tuesday so I’m giving it until Monday (when the antibiotics run out) and then I’ll make another appointment with my doctor.

Thankfully, I’m not throwing up or other nasty symptoms, just not hungry and a slight pain in my lower left abdomen.  Do you have any idea how boring it is to eat white rice multiple days in a row? And we’re talking about 1/4cup or less of the stuff, just enough to help make me not feel nauseous when taking the meds? It is BORING!

On the plus side, I’ve lost about 5lbs and gotten some quality reading time. But I won’t be real active here online, as you might have noticed.

  1. I’m sorry you’re feeling sick. The BRAT diet is about all you can do with gastroenteritis. Banana, Rice, Applesauce, Toast (dry) I hope you’re feeling better soon. You might find probiotics helpful in restoring your innards. I had pneumonia a few years ago and ended up with 5 courses of antibiotics back to back. It destroyed my stomach lining and I’ve had problems ever since so I’m big on recommending probiotics to others now so no one ends up like me!

  2. That’s one of the nastiest things I’ve ever had so you have my sympathy. I couldn’t keep water down at first so I had to take one sip every 20 minutes and was then on soup and custard for a week. Not fun. Hope you are feeling better really soon.

  3. Sending healing thoughts your way! And probiotics (a high quality) would definitely be a good thing to take.

We never get lots of reading time in the way and for the reasons we want it, do we? Oh well! Maybe in heaven!

    1. Much better but not all the way. My stomach has shrunk so much that I can’t even eat a can of soup now.
And the worst part? I couldn’t have caffeine because it could further inflame the intestine. So I’ve been super draggy on top of being sick.
But today is the first day after the anti-biotics, so I’m hoping it will be a good day. We’ll see if the weather cooperates…
