June ’18 Roundup & Ramblings

06June - 647381

Raw Data:

12 Books

4575 Pages

3.13 Average Star Rating

The Bad:

Toll the Hounds – 1 Star

The Good:

Mere Christianity – 5 Stars

Graphic Novels & Manga:

Read a couple more Silver Sable comics and realized that my time with this medium is pretty much done.

Miscellaneous And Personal:

Bailed on Survival Saturday. Work has been exhausting this month and experimenting with some food was just more than I could handle on my day off.  Thankfully, W.C. Bombfunk is making me some chicken potpie later today, so I’m still getting some kind of food!

Surviving a Bad Book went well. I announced I’m putting it on  a break since I’m going to start a new series about the Good books I’ve read.

Didn’t do to many more non-review posts. Did a VERSUS post and ended the month with a Confessional, where I admitted I was open to questions that I would answer next week.

Tomorrow I’ve got a Mid-Year Roundup scheduled, so that should have lots of numbers as well.

Cover Love:

Princess of Blood wins the cover love award this time. Whoever Tom Lloyd got to do these covers, he really hit a home run.

I just did some google’ing and it turns out the guy’s name is Jon McCoy.

  1. Question – on average, how long does it take to cook your survival meals? I just assumed survival food would be relatively simple and fast to make, but maybe it’s because the ones we have in our emergency stores are nothing fancy. Your brands seem have to have more advanced recipes 🙂

    1. I count on about 30 min from putting the water on to boil to putting the glop onto the plate/bowl.
I have deliberately stayed away from the ones that are 2 step and require cooking rice, noodles, or pasta from a separate package.

  2. Jeez, yes, that Lloyd cover is awesome! And it’s a nice call back to the first of his series. Wow. If I continue, I will definitely get the physical copy and not the kindle version.

I hear you with work is busy…. I don’t have the energy to do a lot after my shifts, so i haven’t read or blogged a lot lately 😦 It’s annoying. I feel like my life is dominated by work work work atm. Meh. I need to retire

    1. I would still like to work, but maybe just one day a week? I think I could handle that 😀

I was looking and the price for Stranger of Tempest in hardcover is shooting up because there weren’t very many printed…

    1. Thank you. I started doing page count last year sometime but not every month. This year I’m using it as my standard instead of number of books. I find it is much more realistic month to month…

        1. I started because I found I had a tendency to “cheat” and read a comic that was 30pages and count it as a “book”. So some months I’d have 30 “books” for the month. It just didn’t convey the reality of the situation, so pages have helped me be more honest 🙂

I’m just glad I don’t do audible books. I’m not sure how I’d convert hours and minutes into that equation 😀

    1. It might end being that. Work is a bit unsettled now so I might end up with some time on my hands.
And if I’m wise, I’ll use it to read instead of frittering it away on stuff I can’t even remember 2 days later 😀
